PCOS

PCOS is the abbreviation of polycystic ovary syndrome which is a common health issue occurred due to an imbalance of reproductive hormones. The unevenness in hormones may raise issues in the female’s ovaries. A female with PCOS may experience either irregular or prolonged menstrual periods. This condition raises the male hormones called androgen in the body. Additionally, there may be a small collection of follicles are developed which leads to failure in releasing eggs. Most of the ladies eager to figure out the exact cause of PCOS but these are unknown. If its symptoms detected early then the chances of reducing long term effects of PCOS are higher. But how would you be able to find out whether you have PCOS or not? Most of the females are unaware of various infertility issues unless they face difficulty in conceiving. It is seen that after years of marriage they try for babies but face difficulties. There can be various reasons for the same but in many cases, PCOS can be.  However, there are some symptoms of PCOS mentioned beneath that may help to over with appropriate PCOS treatment.

Symptoms:

In order to learn about PCOS, it is necessary to understand the symptoms. Let’s take a look over some common symptoms of PCOS:

  • Unpredictable or irregular periods: One may notice unpredictable or irregular periods in which the menstrual cycle may prolong up to 35 days or more. However, a normal menstrual cycle can lie between 22 and 35 days. Females’ experiences unpredictable menstrual cycles this can be about 8 or fewer cycles per year. Generally, this occurs due to a shortage of progesterone among females with PCOS. In this condition, the menstrual periods either can be heavy or light.
  • Difficulty in getting pregnant: If we talk about pregnancy then females with PCOS are face issues in pregnancy. It is considered as the most common reason of infertility in females. The fertility issues arise due to lack of ovulation. It is seen that if the female is having menstrual periods there may be no surety that she is ovulating. In this condition, females may get periods without ovulating. Therefore, a woman is not aware of anything wrong until she tries getting pregnant and facing issues.
  • Excessive growth of hair on the body (Hirsutism): As we all know, PCOS is a hormonal disorder which occurs due to an excessive level of androgens. The impact of hormonal imbalance causes in excessive hair growth on face, chest, lower back etc. Research has revealed hirsutism is strongly linked with metabolic problems.
  • Acne and overweight: Unfortunately, excessive androgens can result in unwanted acne problem on the face. During this condition, one may experience acne issues due to excessive oil over face. On other hand, women with PCOS may more likely gain excessive weight. PCOS problems can result in obesity when it can affect a thin person also.

Treatment for PCOS

If we talk about treatment for PCOS then there is no exact cure to get rid of this issue. It can only be controlled by following certain methods:

  • Losing weight: For the overweighed females the best treatment can be losing weight. It will help in improving the regularity in periods and stimulating the ovulation process.
  • Exercise and adopting a healthy diet: Eating fresh and healthy food can help a person to maintain the symptoms of PCOS. Adapting the PCOS diet such as fruits, veggies can help in improving the condition. In addition to this, Exercise is the best way to live fit and healthy. Regular exercise can definitely help in balancing hormones.
  • Laparoscopic Ovarian Drilling (LOC): Since women suffering from PCOS may face infertility issues. One may go for laparoscopic surgery if she is trying to get pregnant. In this procedure, the ovaries are exposed to heat or laser to remove the tissue that releases androgens. Timely treatment can help a woman to conceive a baby.

Is pregnancy possible with PCOS?

This is the question of most of the ladies whether the pregnancy is possible or not with PCOS. However, it is a hormonal condition that can reduce the egg quality and affect the ovulation. As a result, the chances of getting pregnant can be really weak. In that case, your doctor may recommend you medicines to improve your hormonal level. If the medication does not remain useful in that case your doctor may suggest you undergo IVF.
